[Exclusive] Ibe Kachikwu Writes Buhari, Wants NNPC GMD called to order

Documents exclusively made available to The have unearthed the stormy relationship between the Minister of State for Petroleum and the General Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru.

Much of the sordid details of the strained relations are contained in a letter allegedly written to President Buhari by Dr. Ibe Kachikwu. The minister complained of humilation of his person by the group general manager, NNPC Maikanti Baru as well as the corporation’s unwillingness to follow due process in the running of its activities.

Meanwhile Nigeria’s ministry of Petroleum Resources has described as distressing that a confidential communication to the President on the performance of one of its parastatals has been made public.

This was contained in a statement signed by Idang Alibi, Director of Press of the ministry and made available to AIT Tuesday night.

According to the statement, the publication which is a memo emanating from the office of the Minister of state for Petroleum resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu was focused on improving efficiency and deepening transparency in the oil and gas sector for continued investor confidence.

It further reiterated that the communication under reference is a normal procedural correspondence by the Minister of state to the President relating to developments in parastatals under his supervision.

It therefore views as unfortunate and mischievous that anyone will leak such document to the public.
